Re:  6th Avenue Railroad Crossing Closure
Date:  April 14, 2010

The City of Hendersonville, in conjunction with NCDOT and Norfolk Southern, will begin removal of the railroad crossing at 6th Avenue East and Maple Street on April 19th.  The project will consist of removing the existing road surface and installing guardrail on each side of the railroad track which will permanently close this crossing.  The project should take less than a week to complete.

This work is the last stage of a multi-phase project that included upgrades to the railroad crossings on 7th Avenue and 4th Avenue.

For more information please contact Public Works Department at 697-3084.

Sconces Installed on Historic Depot

Public Works recently finished mounting four matching sconces on the Maple Street
side of the Historic Depot. The sconces have a dusk to dawn switch that allows the lights
to contribute real value to the safety and security of the Depot Plaza area.

In addition to providing greater security on Maple Street, the sconces add continuity with
the newly installed street lamps.

HSAD Offers Free Meeting Space for Non-profits and Small Groups

The City of Hendersonville has granted approval for HSAD to offer the 30-seat Historic Depot
Meeting Room as a no-fee meeting space to smaller organizations that would otherwise have
to rent spaces for their meetings. Such organizations would be serving either a public interest
or performing a quasi-governmental purpose.

The Meeting Room within the north end of the Historic Depot at Maple Street and 7th
Avenue East may be reserved at no fee for uses by non-profit organizations and City
government organizations. City government organizations will always be “first-priority” users.

Other groups serving public purposes such as HSAD, neighborhood watch, neighborhood
associations, interest groups (e.g., arts & crafts associations, service clubs, etc.), and special
ad hoc committees of either City or other local governments may use the Meeting Room for
meeting or gathering.

Please contact HSAD by any of the means below for a copy of the guidelines.
